The giant strides of St. Columbanus Secondary School, Ikwen, in the educational sector, has, once again, been officially commended by The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Nigeria Communications Commission, Abuja. In a letter addressed to the Principal, The Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Commission, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, acknowledged with delight, the responsible way the school has managed its Knowledge Centre thereby harvesting impressive results for its privileged students. Prof. Danbatta commended the school for the contributions of St. Columbanus to facilitate the achievement of national policy goals especially in ICT through the Universal Service Provision Fund, USPF. In a related letter of congratulations to the school, the Secretary of USPF, Mr. Ayuba Shaibu, acknowledging the high standard of academic, discipline and morality that the school is known for, communicated the Federal Government’s provision and deployment of Bandwidth Aggregation to St. Columbanus. He explained that the Bandwidth Aggregation Project is to ensure internet connectivity for resource and information sharing to benefit student education in the school. Taking delivery of the facilities already installed, on behalf of the Federal Government, by a Team of Engineers led by Engr. Reuben Ibrahim from ARIF INVESTMENT, the Principal of St. Columbanus, Rev. Fr. Dr. Emem Umoren and some members of the Management Team – Mr. Saviour Akuaibit (Vice Principal Administration), Mr. Edwin Udoh (Vice Principal, Academic) and Rev. Fr. Ubong Akpabio (Dean of Students) were excited but humbled by this gesture from the Federal Government of Nigeria. On behalf of the Proprietor, Most Rev. Camillus Umoh; the Diocesan Educatiuon Commission, Staff, Parents and Students of the schooL, Fr. Emem thanked the Nigeria Communications Commission for encouraging excellence. The Vice Principal Administration, Mr. Saviour Akuaibit, on behalf of school Management, too, pledged continued responsible use of the facilities provided to the school.

This congratulations came at a time THAT THIS SCHOOL, St. Columbanus Secondary School, IKWEN,  has recorded another uniquely unique 100% in the recently released NECO BECE and the 2009 WASCE. With some students scoring nine and some eight Alphas, SCOSSI was proud to demystify Mathematics showcasing a result where all 101 candidates passed Maths with Alphas. St. Columbanus which is currently the Regional Champion of UCMAS –Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System – a Malaysian copyrighted mental facility for mathematical excellence, has for sometime now been reaping the fruits of this program in the excellent way their students perform in Mathematics. All other WASCE candidates in the school had more Alphas than Credits in at least 8 subjects including English and Maths. According to the Principal, Rev. Fr. Emem Umoren, it was a harvest of success recorded by God’s Grace and through hard work. Fr. Emem dedicated this and many other success stories of St. Columbanus to SCOSSI Teachers, Parents and Students. Reacting to this year’s excellent result, Mr. Edwin Udoh, Vice Principal Academics and Rev. Fr. Ubong Akpabio, the Dean of students, confirmed that the result reflected the true ability of the students and thanked the teachers for their commitment and responsibility. In a related message, they used the opportunity to advise parents to bring their wards to St. Columbanus where they can be genuinely inspired and empowered.
